What we do:
- Work closely with local NHS trusts on early assessment with the ‘Newborn Hearing Screening Programme – NHSP’ and ‘Modernising Childrens Hearing Aid Services – MCHAS’.
- Run a Family Support Group for parents of deaf children at Park Road Community House and a Sensory Support Group for parents of children with a hearing, visual or dual sensory impairment at the Kess Centre.
- Provide advice and support to families of children with sensory impairment form birth to 19 years (or school leaving age).
- Promote educational intervention from the early months for young children.
- Provide assessment, advice, monitoring and support to all school in Kirklees.
- Monitor all children who have statements of SEN for sensory impairment in their settings.
- Provide in-service training to school and other agencies.
- Work within a multi-agency environment promoting the needs of children with sensory impairment.
- Work in close liaison with resourced provisions for children with hearing or visual impairment as described below.
