The National Association of Music Educators (NAME) is the professional association which represents all those involved in music education: advisers, inspectors, teachers and lecturers in schools and further education, lecturers working in teacher education and in conservatoires, publishers and the education industry, specialist organisations and freeland music education consultants.
The experience and expertise of its members has contributed and influenced the national provision for music education in a wide variety of fields, including
- the implementation of music in the national curriculum
- music at external examination level
- instrumental teaching in and for schools and colleges
- the management of music services
- the initial training of teachers and musicians in FE and HE
- the inservice support of teachers
- the inspection of music schools and colleges
- collaboration with other music education bodies and publishers
The NAME network of professional support helps its members to deliver high quality music education by:
- enabling regular contact with colleagues and national bodies through conferences and regional meetings, training days and special events
- informing parents, governors, headteachers, politicians and the music industry
- providing professional subject support and advice
- promoting the professional development of its members
- sharing good practice in music education
- distributing regular newsletters and publications
- a helpline for its members
Membership is open to anyone involved in music education. The Association is organised into ten regions which arrange meetings, inservice training and conferences for professional dialogue. It holds an annual National Conferences. Its key objective is to support high quality music education for all.
