Introduction
The purpose of these materials is to support schools with updating the QCA Scheme of Work for ICT. The original QCA scheme of work was published in 2001. Although the QCA scheme provides a structure to deliver ICT capability this is of its time, and many schools have moved from this to further embedding planned opportunities to develop ICT capability within appropriate curriculum contexts. Since the scheme of work was published, ICT has moved on significantly in terms of hardware, applications and children’s skills. The documents will assist schools as part of the process of reflecting on, and further developing, their current practice. Schools need to ensure that the ICT curriculum is engaging and challenging for children. The ICT curriculum will be updated in the new Primary Curriculum, due to be implemented in September 2011 (for full details see the Primary Curriculum Review website). These materials will support schools with moving ICT forward in the interim period.
Some of the support materials have been adapted from Primary Strategy resources which were piloted in a small number of local authorities in 2006. All of the other materials have been developed specifically for use in Kirklees schools. The materials can be used by ICT Coordinators wishing to review provision across the school, or by individual class teachers.
