The original Kirklees Internet safety policy was based on Guidance provided by Kent Grid for Learning. This guidance has now been updated and schools are free to use the guidance to update their own policies. The Kent e-safety materials may be copied and adapted for non-commercial educational purposes only, always provided that KCC's copyright is acknowledged. Readers outside Kent are asked to e mail them when they use these materials. esafety@kent.gov.uk

Guidance on the Internet
The NUT have published an article 'Using the internet: a common sense approach' on their website Using email and internet facilities at
school: A common sense approach A briefing by the National Union of Teachers The expanding use of school internet and e-mail facilities has led to increasing concern about ways to ensure responsible and safe use of this developing communications medium. The NUT guidance has been prepared for all schools, although it is recognised that the issues for schools in the primary sector are likely to be different from those in secondary or special schools. Each school will need to decide the measures it needs to take to prevent inappropriate use of the internet and e-mail and to develop responsible use of the technology. It is directly downloadable at
