Revised guidance for teachers and headteachers and a model application form are now available for Round 9 of the Threshold pay award (2008/09).

Craft Woven From Graft
This pack has been developed as a flexible resource to support teaching at Key Stage 3 in the areas of Citizenship and History. However, as many of the activities are practically based, the pack can be used within other parts of the curriculum such as Art and Design Technology.

Fire and the use of naked flames in school premises
The following is intended to cover the main general points of using naked flame equipment in school premises, it may also be prudent to carry out this procedure when the school assembly or other function is moved to other premises, church buildings etc especially when planning Christmas functions/ parties.

Lyme Disease
There has been quite a bit of publicity recently in connection with Lyme Disease. Though relatively rare it is on the increase.
It is a virus spread, in the main, by sheep and deer ticks.

Sunny Travel Coaches
It appears that a new coach company has been contacting schools recently. This company, Sunny Travel, appear to be operating out of the same premises and under the same telephone number as Paul's Travel, who had their operator's licence revoked last September. We are strongly recommending that we do not use this company at the moment. I will contact schools and YPS if this advice changes.

Approval of Visits to Theme Parks
As from the 1st September, 2008 visits to theme parks will no longer require approval from me. This means that such trips need only to be approved within the school's internal systems.
This includes Alton Towers, Flamingo Land and Lightwater Valley amongst others.

Safety Alert Regarding Twinco A/S Step Stools
We have received some information from the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) regarding step stools, manufactured by Twinco A/S (model number 6100) of Denmark, causing injury due to design/wear of snap fit clips.

40 more schools are migrating to Integris G2 in the Autumn Term. There will then be 110 schools using the new web based software.

Planned national strike on 16 and 17 July
UNISON and UNITE/T&G have voted in favour of a national strike on Wednesday 16 and Thursday 17 July 2008 in relation to the annual pay award. The strike would last throughout the forty-eight hours of the two working days, and your place of work could be affected. You should have received a letter outlining how the strike could affect your own employment rights, and advising you of what is expected of you, whether you are a member of a union or not.

Dates for Artsmark Training in Huddersfield : Autumn 2008
Following the success of the Artsmark training days recently held in Huddersfield spring/summer 2008, further events are now being planned for the Autumn term. Schools that attended the part 1 training, (Introduction and Overview to Artsmark) may now wish to book for part 2 event on the 3rd November. For schools that are new to Artsmark and have not attended a part 1 day, the Introduction and Overview to Artsmark event will be running again on the 1st October.

On November 3rd Kirklees will host two 5 day accredited training of English as an Additional Language CPD which will be led by registered TESMC tutors. The training offered will be appropriate for KS2+.

Staincliffe Junior School Parent's Visit to Cliffe House
Twenty parents of Year 5 children enjoyed a day's visit to Cliffe House at Shepley on the 13th June 2007. The aim of the visit was for parents to get a taster of what their children would experience during their residential stay at Cliffe House, when they are in Year 6.
